Why We Are Unique
Our Commitment to Rare Breeds Sustainable Farming & Humane Practices
At Sugar Feather Farm, we are on a mission to preserve and restore rare poultry and fowl breeds, many of which are at risk of disappearing from farms altogether. These birds hold significant historical and agricultural value, and through careful breeding and ethical farming, we work to ensure their survival.
🐓 Heritage & Homestead Breeds
We specialize in raising unique and lesser-known fowl that are well-suited for small farms, homesteads, and sustainable agriculture. Our flocks are carefully selected for disease resistance, adaptability, and long-term vitality, making them an excellent addition to any farm, homestead or backyard.
🌿 Sustainability & Land Stewardship
Our farm is nestled in the rolling mountains of Vermont, where we embrace a holistic approach to land and animal care. We continuously refine our free-range methods to minimize environmental impact, using wooded areas and natural landscapes to support the well-being of our birds while preserving the surrounding ecosystem.
By choosing Sugar Feather Farm, you’re not just adding poultry to your flock—you’re becoming part of a movement dedicated to breed conservation, ethical farming, and sustainable agriculture.

What is NPIP Certification? 〰️
The National Poultry Improvement Program (NPIP) is a nationwide initiative dedicated to ensuring the health and biosecurity of poultry flocks. Designed to protect both commercial and small-scale poultry operations, NPIP sets strict guidelines for disease prevention, testing, and biosecurity measures.
As an NPIP-certified farm (NPIP 13-37), Sugar Feather Farm undergoes regular inspections, comprehensive disease screenings, and strict biosecurity protocols. These include foot baths, biosecurity plan, disinfectant procedures, and ongoing testing for Pullorum, Avian Influenza and Salmonella. Our compliance with state and federal regulations ensures that the birds we ship across the U.S. is healthy and disease-free.
For those looking to source poultry with confidence, NPIP certification is a mark of quality, safety, and responsible farming. Check out our blog post on Pullorum and why this test is so important. Worried about Avian Infuenza? We got you covered! Read about Avian Influenza here.
