The Hedemora or Hedemorahona, is a rare chicken breed over 500 years old that originated in the forested areas of Dalarna County of Sweden close to Hedemora. It’s said to be the most cold hardy chicken in the world. Hedemoras are known to lay throughout the frigid winters, and are willing foragers even in the snow at a very low temperature in subzero weather — how cool! We immediately wanted to get our hands on these birds living in the harsh conditions of Vermont.

The Hedemora originates from the area close to Hedemora in Delarna County, Sweeden. They were rediscovered in the 1980’s when a woman saw a flock that reminded her of chickens her parents had in her childhood.

We recommend starting baby chicks out with Sugar Feather Farm chick starter for the first 3 weeks, then switch to our Chicken Grower. Use the Grower Feed until they hit maturation (which is when they start to lay) then switch to Sugar Feather Farm Adult Feed.
We highly recommend using the Oil of Oregano in their water daily as a supplement to aid with digestion and overall health.
